PostSubject: Royal Python wheezing   Sun Jan 04, 2009 12:28 pm

I got a python from a friend who could not take care of him about 5 months ago. he is at a healthy weight and size now, however he started wheezing yesterday. I upped the temp to 90 and the humditiy is still at 60%. is there anything else I can do for him, and why did he start wheezing to begin with?

Hi, My girl was wheezing for the first five months after she arrived (she's six, so not a baby). Then she got a cold, with full on sneezing and lethargy. I cranked her heat from 89, right up to 91, and she has been great since. I also changed her substrate from bark to aspen shavings. Good luck.

Thanks, posted awhile ago, he is doing great now. Think I finally got the heat just right. just having problems keeping humidity at a steady 65.

Hey... I have a related question... and I'm new to the site so bear with me if I have posted in the wrong spot. I'm sorry in advance if this is the case.

Anywho... My eldest ball python, a male I would assume about 2 yrs (not sure because I rescued him), he has been in excellent health since I got him and started feeding him on a regular schedule (he was really skinny). But...

I've recently noticed, however, that he makes a noise thats not wheezing or coughing but it's not a hiss either its more something in the middle. He does it randomly, I've notice more when I've been handling him because hes closer to my ear. I've read everything I could find on the internet and he hasn't ever had any foamy stuff around his mouth and has been kept in the prime conditions in his tank. I'm not sure if I should be worried???

He's eating great, and has shed fully everytime since I've gotten him on a schedule. He's never been agressive, he loves being handled and out of his tank (Am I handling him too much?)

I have him housed with a smaller male ball in a 75 Gal tank; the little one has never made the noise. They've never showed any territorial characteristics, in fact is the opposite, they're always together and follow each other around the tank (and they've both been sexed and are definetly males). I feed them seperatly and out of they're tank. Does it have something to do with the co-habitation??

If someone could please assit me with some answers because I am as bad as a new mother, worrying about everything. Thanks in advance!
